(Part III of III)
Highlights from the two hour Ordination and Consecration Liturgy on September 19, 2009 in the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island, N.Y. where the Presiding Bishop, the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, and 20 other bishops ordained Lawrence Charles Provenzano as the 1037th bishop in the American succession and who will serve as the eighth Bishop Diocesan of Long Island. (The liturgy is from the Book of Common Prayer, pages 512 and following.)

  • This was a truly beautiful service and proof that Christ lives on in His Church. While it may be true that we Anglicans, and Episcopalians, differ in tradition from the Church of Rome at least we practice what Christ taught....that is to love all, welcome all, and serve all. Christ commanded us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves, and to administer/receive the sacraments.

He did not condemn differences; especially since he ministered to the cast offs of society.

  • Heresy has embraced you, you do not have the Apostolic line as you were in heresy ordained by a false priestess who is not of the true faith Lord have mercy on you!

  • Dont judge others later u will judge by Lord when Judgement come ! Who r we to judge ? r u better than others ? I dont think so

  • cant belive how bad you guys want to be catholic

  • Larry Proenzano and I were seminarians together 25 years ago in the Roman Catholic Church. Anyone who thinks that he is now validly ordained as a bishop or that Katherine Jefferts Schori has any power whatsoever to ordain anyone to anything is a fool and a nutjob. The entire Episcopal Church USA are a bunch or deranged heretics.

  • @MapleAnglican Oh and you are only 30 years old?! I must congratulate you. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa...I meant not the mitre but the staff.

  • @karpov89 You are correct as in the Roman Catholic Church as all Bishops (even the non-Principal Co-Consecrators) will wear their Mitres. There is no restriction on a Bishop wearing a Mitre outside their Diocese. For Orthodox Consecrations the consecrating Bishops will having their Mitres off as a default.

At my own Bishop's Consecration nearly three years ago only the Principal Consecrator (who was the Metropolitan) and the two Principal Co-Consecrators wore mitres, the rest did not.

  • There is some restrictions (in practise) in wearing the mitre when the bishop is in another diocese and the bishop of the diocese is present but that does not apply in this cases.

  • @MapleAnglican OK! But I find it strange that the consecrating bishops do not wear the mitre, which is the custom in the Lutheran (maybe not in America), the Anglican Church and also the Roman Catholic church I think..

  • @karpov89 There where a lot more than three Bishop during the consecration. All of those laying on hands were Bishops, although some were wearing Choir Dress. If you look closely the Priest and Deacon on either side of the Presiding Bishop did not lay on hands to the Bishop-Elect during the consecration.
