I'm not at all familiar with the Notre Dame instrument but the 32' Bombarde is amazing. I don't think I've ever heard anything like it!

I think this is one of the best ever of his improvistations. All I have to say is "WOW"
-
One cannot listen to this without a hard hat and steel toed boots just in case...!

Come on, Simon!
Cocherau is only something for hard boys and girls!
-
Yea they've been changed a lot
-
Wow he really gives the 32' Bombarde one heck of a rumble along with those chamades!

Ahh, thanks. Didn't watch the first part for a longer time now. - The 'legendary' book... Hope that someday I'll have my own copy (WITH the CD included) for a convenient price.
Sometimes, I think Cochereau play's things to fast eg. Gigout Toccata but strangely, he plays Messiaens Dieu Parmi Nous at a slower-than-usual speed. In other words, the prefect speed. It has always confused me. Someone please explain!

Its that wonderful thing called Artistic Licence :-)
The tempo he took for some major organ works were slow, take his Bach & Dupré for example, it is strange that his approach could vary. His Vierne was taken at quick a lick!
Having listened to some of Dupré's recordings, that he wasn't immune to this either...like teacher, like pupil :-)

Are the three parts of that improvisation available on CD?

Yes, but they were included as a freebie with a book on French cathedral organs, but not available separately. For info please see the notes in the 'more info' section to the first part :-)
