Incredible 28 Years stand between the Original Tron and Tron: Legacy.

I've seen Tron Legacy in 3D (unfortunately not in IMAX) and I have to say that this is one of the most beautifully shot SIFI movies I've ever seen, Tron City looks amazing, the outfits are stunning and the General Design of the movie is perfectly chosen. It is doing very good in the theaters, so you can be sure that they will give us a sequel ;)

Technological advances aside, gotta say I prefer the aesthetic of the original. Legacy is just so dark and monochromatic. Almost boring to look at, really. Like a 90-minute iPod commercial.
