  • Correct me if im wrong, but the Confucius Institute is under the auspicious of Hanban, whose board members are CCP heads. The big difference between the Confucius Institutes and the other programs mentioned is that the Confucius Institutes are located in universities and the Confucius Classrooms are located in public school, while the others programs are located in public spaces. Also, the other programs are not supported by Communist regimes, and they support human rights.

  • @sean53180

The board of Hanban also include educators from other countries include U.S.. The mission of Hanban is to promote Chinese language and culture, no political agendas. Confucius Institutes (CI) are located in universities and run by universities, same as the Confucius Classroom (CC) in K-12 schools. All these universities and schools have to apply to set up these institutes. In other words, it is the desire of these universities and schools to establish CCs.

  • Does anyone else find it disturbing that American Children are being taught by the Confucius Institute, a wholly PRC controlled entity?

  • @sean53180

I don't understand why it is disturbing. If one wants to learn a foreign language & culture, it will be best to learn from the experts from that country. Just as we learn France through France Alliance and German through Goth Institute, it is a good idea to learn Chinese through Confucius Institute. BTW, Confucius Institute is not controlled by PCR, it is a collaborative effort by a university of host country and a universities in China.

  • @sean53180 So to say the schools desire CIs is to say the schools desire money. I should have clarified, the language and cultural learning is not disturbing at all, but rather the fact that the US is allowing communist personnel to teach young American Children.

  • China Daily quoted Yuan Gulren as saying the CI is an, "efficient way to promote "soft power" and to appeal to more overseas students". The teachers from the PRC are required to adhere to the One-Child policy, and one could guess how the teachers would react to human rights questions. The CI program dangles a lot of free money and "sponsored" trips for administrators to the PRC, at a time when the US education system is hurting for money.
