The original version. Fantastic, fantastic.

Even though I was a metal head, I was a HUGE closet Bangles fan. Even though I knew Kimberly Rew from KATW wrote this song, I had never heard their version until just now. I must say, I love it. It's a little more raw than the bangles version. I'm digging it.

Kicks sand in the Bangles' faces and I actually have a real soft spot for the Bangles overall (not to mention something hard for Hoffs). This is is far superior, and I'm not just saying that becasue its the original.

@amtlpaul - Are you saying that the 'original' version was sung by Kimberley Rew, the guitarist (who is a guy), and not Katrina herself? I'd like to hear that version if that's true. Do you still have a copy?

better than the bangles version, mind you "walk like an aids victim" was a good song
-
love this version the best.

Kimberley Rew is the catchiest motherfucker alive!
-
Give it to the Soft Boys.....

Have to agree K and Ws do it better than the Bangles. I like the Bangles best when Michael sings lead but that is just me, I suppose. Great song, thanks for posting.

fantastic! Great Group, Fabulous
Singer, and very very good music

Actually, the 'original' version was released in 1983 - only in Canada- and was sung by Kimberly Rew (the writer). This is one is a remake for Capitol. In those days unemployment was very high in Liverpool, so it was a good place to go to do 'nothing all the days of my life'. The line "Where are you going with that Ub40 in your hand" makes this clear: UB40 was the name of the unemployment form in Britain.

@junkers290 I heard Kimberley's first, it was the b-side of their massive single "Walking on Sunshine". I thought the Bangles cover was lame compared to this.
Apparently she had writers block and for some reason she thought that a trip oop north to ‘do nothing’ was the cure, as you do. The irony being as no body had a job they where free to sit around and drink tea and make music, consequently there was a very vibrant scene in L’Pool at the time(the teardrops, bunnymen, wha whatever, holly Jonson, bill drummond, china crisis, Dead or Alive, Icicle Works, OMD, Jayne Casey Etc) I am assuming that she was maybe thinking that she could tap in on it.

I know this is the original and all that but I think the Bangles' version is better.

@proto1type Hey we are entitled to our opinions, but I really do believe the Bangles version is watered down.
the guitar performance by Rew is much more stylized and emotive--and he's a better soloist by far. I find it difficult to believe a cover can be better than the original. Don't get me wrong, I like the Bangles, but their version can't touch this.
