  • Hi Alex! Thanks so much for the video. I am very interested in learning the Lever Stroke. I teach the drums and practice hours daily. I am obsessed with technique and believe the lever stroke is the core foundation. I have many questions such as where exactly does rotation come in to the stroke and how the Lever Stroke uses rebound? I live in Long Island as was wondering if there was a way to set up some lessons with you? Do you have an e-mail or phone number I can directly reach you at?

  • Hey Neil: The rotational action of the stroke is used with French, American and traditional grip (left hand). With pure Matched grip there is no rotation. For your 2nd question, the lever stroke in its fundamental form does not use rebound. To learn the stroke you hold the stick tightly, and do not let it rebound at all. But of course, rebound IS an integral and necessary part of drumming technique. But to learn the lever stroke, it is best to isolate the arm motion -- so no bouncing allowed!

  • Thanks for your question. You can check out this video of some great drummers and look for the motion I described. For some reason I can't post the link, but type "alexdrums7" in the youtube search box, and then click on "Lever Stroke Master Class".

  • Hey Bro. you take care of your family before everything else. People can wait, you child and wife cannot. Your a gifted teacher! You will be successful. Thanks!

  • Thanks, man! As you can see I have been busy -- because it took me a whole month to respond to your comment!!

  • So it is now officially "sometime in mid 2010", when is the last video going to be posted? :-)

  • Yeah, sorry man, I have a new baby and it's really putting a dent in my time. I will do my best to get it uploaded by the end of the year. Peace out.
