Wow, what a dumbass comment...
You obviously do not understand Chen Style Taijiquan nor do you understand its history or literature. The older forms (circa Chen Wangting) had a lot of high flying kicks and acrobatic movements. Educate yourself before you open your mouth.

does taiji always aim for the groin?

What are you talking about? If you actually go through Chen style martial art books and theory YOU will find kicks in it. Lao jia yi lu (1st old frame set) and Lao jia er lu (2nd old frame set) have kicks in it. Lao jia er lu also has two lower sweeps as well.

What I'm seeing here is the practitioner using deception as part of applying pressure to the attacker's source of power in the form of counter attacking while shielding it with attack to another area.
Which may explain why he [often] attacks 2 specific areas at once as opposed to just one. I'm just looking at it from a psychological stand point, how ever.

With lightness comes real speed and real speed comes real power. This is what chen style taiji teaches us well. Combine that with say mantis style boxing and san shou takedowns and you have a lot better applications in a real time fight situation. I don't know why people insist on being so puritanical and claiming they MUST use one style and one style only when fighting. That's for the birds. combine the best of what works in any situation and then you know how to fight.

@zrvs Chen style is notorious for it's hard soft fast and slow movements. People who don't understand Tai Chi who are impressed with speed and only see one aspect fail to see the true nuances of Tai Chi Chuan. One step applications while wonderful in demonstrating practicality of the system, don't show these techniques in the full light. I applaud what he is demonstrating, but I don't see the melding as much as I would like to see.

He has some nice kicks there

powerless kicks....why dont you slap him instead?backfist him?no sense of ballance or rooting to the ground...a hit must come from every muscle of your body.

@everybody. Come touch, then maybe you see.

First of all "internal" why do ppl say that? In the end it is just a movement nothing more nothing less. Does it mater if I punch you in the face with a so call internal movement or external movement? I study bodymechanics for very long time now I can say to you that nothing in the body can go straight. All movement is produced with cicular movement or rotation it may look straight but is not it is made up with cicular movement.

whoever still thinks taiji is slow and for old people can think whatever they will. in application, the power developed while meticulously practicing these sets would be too devastating to apply in an actual fight without severe consequence
internal martial arts is infinitely more difficult to learn and especially understand, but it is also limitless in skill. those who practice regular martial arts will not understand this
as our sifu Ben Der said once, "feels like cotten, hits like steel."

This was an excellent demo.I practice Hsing-I.I never knew that Taiji had apps. like this! Chen / Hong style come directly from Chen village? What are the differences ?

Chen Style Taijiquan Practical Method of Hong came from Chen Fake, who came from the Chen Village. It was taught from 1930 to 1957. It's best just to say it is different from what is practiced in the Chen Village today.

Kinda hairy.. it would be hard or impossible to apply most of this video in a full speed fight.

That's what sets the trained and untrained apart.
