Rounder, a Rhodesian Ridgeback rescue, demonstrates his every day recall and his emergency recall. Rounder always had a strong recall. Leslie Nelson's DVD - "Really Reliable Recall - Train Your Dog to Come When
Called...No Matter What!" made it even better. Now, we regularly condition an 'emergency' recall. Hopefully, we'll never need it, but it will be a conditioned response if we do. Leslie's video is available at www.dogwise.com

  • you said your dog already had a great recall, do you think the video would work on my dog? his recall is amazing inside..but outside the house he won't EVER come. he was a stray and gets so distracted outside it's like he doesn't even hear me. i'm trying to find something that will really work because i'd love to take him off leash eventually. i'm not worried about how long it'll take, just as long as it works.

sorry i've asked so much! =)

  • @rachelrosss I understand your concerns. No sorry necessary. Recalls are so important. The training program in Leslie's DVD and the methods are sound. If you follow them, they'll work. She covers more than training. She talks about the relationship you have with your dog, management and training. She also has a section where she addresses what to do if it's not working for you. I know everyone has their own opinion, but to me, this is a good investment in your dog. Happy training. :-)

  • whats the difference between his recall and his emergency recall? shouldn't he always come whether its an emergency or not? i'm just curious because i'm really considering getting this dvd after seeing this :) well done. how reliable was your dog before the dvd?

  • @rachelrosss Good question! Yes, your dog should come whether it's an emergency or not. At the same time, there may be times that your dog is fascinated by something that may put him in danger, like a family member on the other side of the road. Most of us don't train (or need to train) our everyday recall to that level of reliability. Leslie's DVD explains how to train the e-recall so it becomes almost a reflexive respons. Had a great recall before - it's even better now.

  • could you make a video on how to teach this

  • @jazzcollie I couldn't do it justice. Leslie Nelson's DVD, Really Reliable Recall is amazing. It is comprehensive and easy to follow. If you follow the steps, it will work. You can the DVD on dogwise for about $30. It's a good investment. :-)
