Richard Matthew Stallman (born March 16, 1953), often shortened to rms,[1] is an American software freedom activist and computer programmer. In September 1983, he launched the GNU Project[2] to create a free Unix-like operating system, and has been the project's lead architect and organizer. With the launch of the GNU Project, he initiated the free software movement; in October 1985 he founded the Free Software Foundation.

Es fácil:

- Código Libre: "Comprás" el programa.

- Código Privativo: Comprás el derecho a usar el programa.

Yo como desarrollador prefiero el código privativo por una simple razón: Considero que el código vale muchísimo más que el ejecutable. Dando el código estoy entregando mi abstracción para que esta sea alterada o "extendida" por el consumidor, pero de la misma forma estoy haciendo que pierda valor económico porque puede conseguirse una versión alternativa de la misma liberada por otro.

@inglesynegocios Software libre no es lo mismo que software gratis, de hecho Richard Stallman siempre explica que en "free software" la palabra "free" debe ser interpretada como en "freedom" y no como en "free beer". Puede haber software libre que se vende, de hecho hay distribuciones de GNU/Linux que son comerciales, y también puede haber software privativo gratuito, a lo cual se lo llama Freeware, cuando podés tenerlo gratis, pero no tenés acceso a su código fuente.

software libre = software gratis (solo que se oye mas bonito libre que gratis) y te gusta el software GRATIS porque no puedes comprar el que no es gratis porque no tienes suficiente dinero o inteligencia para hacer un software tan bueno como el que deseas. Así que estas haciendo lo correcto, quejarse. Quejense y sigan quejandose.7

You must be free to gain money out of your work as long as you want to as well. And you must be free and charge or not to charge if you wish so. Software making is hard and it costs effort and study.
