LOL...you wouldn't know unless you have trained for over 10 years as I have and used aikido in self-defense situations as I have also. There is much more to this art than meets the eye. All you see here is slow methodical training of one example, there are an infinite number of techniques. I come across people like yourself all the time in my dojo, in the end they all walk away with their tail between their legs...LOL

It's hard to be accurate with so few words. Judo came from combat roots too. The ju-jutsu schools it was based on were combative schools of ju-jutsu (as all other at that time for that matter!). I think you are more correct when you say that Aikido kept to the Budo philosophy while Kano lead his Judo away from it... In the end, it seems to be only a case of semantics and chronology :-)
