you can but it will take twice as long to grow up and use much of the plants energy just growing to a regular size instead of getting bigger.
I dont see why you would though since it is JUST AS EASY to do it the RIGHT WAY

Thanks. The day I asked the question, I had just planted my garlic upside down. But then I dug them all up and corrected them.

u cant because the plant thats going to come out of it will be in a "loop" shape...and all the energy will be put in to that one procedure...while it could have been used if you did it the right way

It depends on when you planted it. You can actually harvest when ever you want, the garlic is good to eat at any time. But if you want big fat cloves you want to give it plenty of time to mature. In northern NM, where I live, I usually harvest the garlic that I plant in the fall of the year before in mid to late june. The garlic I plant in early spring gets harvested at the end of summer, beginning of fall.

Crazy-I had some garlic cloves just sitting on my stove, and after a few weeks I looked at them, and they sprouted! Its neat. No water. Then I planted them.
