A confrontation between Terry (Marlon Brando) and Edie (Eva Marie Saint) which begins with a fight and ends with a slow-burning kiss in Elia Kazan's classic film.

Edie: I want you to stay away from me.
Terry: Edie, you love me... I want you to say it to me.
Edie: I didn't say I didn't love you. I said, "Stay away from me!"

  • @Barrettford This is not a rape scene, and those who think so haven't seen the movie to understand the tenderness of Edie and Terry's relationship in the scenes leading up to this moment. Physical and forceful, yes, but I think it's established that Edie understands that about Terry, and maybe that's a reason why she loves him.

  • HOLY TRINITY TESTICLES.....I WANT TO EXPLODE INTO BALL OF FIRE....NEVER SAW MAN KISS LIKE THAT IN MOVIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh my God, Eva Marie Saint is the most beautifull woman in the planet. But here... HERE IS A GODESS!

  • Damn, that's hot.

  • He can break down my door any day. ;)

  • @RubyTuesday: Budd Schulberg is an incredibly complex writer, so it's not fair of you to accuse this script of brainwashing. Edie and Terry are equals. (Incidentally, your stereotype doesn't fit: Terry is uneducated, average brains, and maybe even impaired by his boxing.) E and T teach other different moral lessons. E is an uplifting, civilizing influence on T; she helps pull him out of the jungle. Conversely, T makes E realize that compassion needs to be active, not just from the sidelines.

  • @Barrettford may be you are the one who has his/her brain washed off to believe that there is a media conspiracy to brainwash ppl. by whom?for what ? where and when ?

if you watched the movie as you claim you would have known that edie is hardly "weak and submissive" or that terry can hardy be called "intelligent" .

go watch the great movie before spouting silly conspiracy theories .

  • A word of awareness to those who think this is a rape scene, 'a rape victim will NEVER kiss the rapist back.' I have seen the movie. Their chemistry is awesome. His anger is lovely, his love too sexy, I would've jumped on him.

  • what i see here is passion....shes is definitely passionate about him and he feels the same....anger is the strongest emotion that we have to show how we feel about one another...and what i think she was trying to do is disguise her passionate feeling of love with anger.

  • Have you seen this movie? She's mad at him for not telling her his part in her brother's murder, otherwise they are very much in love. Even if you haven't, how is this rape? Notice how she kisses him back....
