Downtown Minneapolis, MN Dec. 2 2009 --The day after President Obama announces a surge of 30,000 new troops to Afghanistan, Bash Back! and other activists take to the streets. Police on horses and bikes arrived to guard this unpermitted march as it blocked traffic. Cops also pointed at a couple protesters in the crowd, noting who showed up. Protesters sat in the intersection of 3rd Ave & 10th St to interrupt business as usual and call attention to this war, while police diverted traffic away and pedestrians stared. At 6:50 pm orders were given to disperse, so the cops could protect the rights of traffic and property over the 1st Amendment rights of everyone peacably assembled. At 7 pm most marched on to Loring Park, but some continued to sit as cop horses and bikes surrounded them. 11 young people were arrested for misdemeanor unlawful assembly. Bash Back! folks organized jail solidarity for the 9 who were released that night.
