In the pantheon of truely shallow comments I have come across by Watchtower apologists in the past year, this ranks as a true classic!
Your implication here is that the young woman should remain an idealogical prisoner of the Witness' fundamentalism in exchange of her personal liberties, which include her own sexuality.
It is beyond suspicious that you describe Witness family life in such terms, ignoring the reality of incest, anxiety, depression, and denile.
This is a great film

I`m a JW from Mexico and I have a career or degree in pedagogy, 2 of my sisters are expulsed from the JW congragation but I`m still in contact with them and we can talk about many topics not about religion (cause they dont like it anymore), I`ve found many friends there, they dont push me to take alcohol or drugs like my past "friends" (thanks to them I and my stupidity I have pròtesis in my teeth) In my opinion this movie is very exaggerated

@serginmatius I was a JW for years. they are not exaggerating at all. I have experienced many things in what that film showed.. what do you say when when people ask you " So im going to die if i don't believe in Jehovah?" or " So an innocent child is going to die because his/her parents didn't believe in Jehovah?" How do you feel when you answer those questions? Do you really think Jehovah would be that cruel? There are so many other people in this world that are good at heart too!

@lthom33 She wasn't expelled for loving the boy, she was expelled because she was havinga sexual relationship with the boy. Dating and having sex before marriage are two differant things. Had Teius been a JW and they had a non-repentant sexual relationship she could have gotten expelled for that as well. The process of expulsion is in the Bible but so is the process of coming back from expulsion. She could always come back just not while in a non married sexual relationship.

Parents of any religion or background try to instill their family values in their children. It is a part of being human. In this case you had a young girl who was taught to be a moral person and seemed happy. You had a guy come into the picture, one she did not love enough to even marry, and she began to doubt her faith, lie, sneak, hide, do the dirty dead, etc. Sorry but she seemed like a nicer girl before she dated the guy. True love makes you a better person not worse.

Three things that are not correct in this movie: 1) She would not have been permitted to be a pioneer (full time missionary) while seeing a boy outside of her religion, even if he shows interest in the faith. 2) Witnesses who share their experiences at an assembly do not address the audience directly, but are interviewed. 3) At the end, her father suggests she has to be invited to attend the funeral of her friend. Not true. All public meetings are open to everyone, even those who are expelled.

@Squiddlysplooch: nothing was blown out of proportion. how the dating and courtship are handled, and appearances to non-witnesses (neighbors) have a small amount of flexibility to it (depending on the chaperons involved and time and places spent alone.) Matters of sex are pretty much black-and-white. Moreover, maybe you missed many of the points made, like her deciding things for her entire life. All her relationships, including with God, her boyfriend, her father. Sigh.

@serginmatius: That's because mexico is very different in how the religion is run there then in the US or Europe. This movie is not exaggerated in those countries.

@vivalahush: Ever hear of something called "closure"? Do you have ANY empathy for an amazingly strong and respectable young girl that just lost contact/support with all her friends, her best friend in a car accident, her relationship with her father, her siblings, her first love and lover, and is trying to now face the entire world with no education/diploma and that she was nearly completely sheltered from already...all revolving around lives devoted to that God. What's wrong with you, not her.

Ignorant people talk how smart they are & how stupid JW's are. They point out irrationalities. But they never lived it. They don't REALLY understand at all. It's not about logic/intelligence when you're IN it and BELIEVE it. It's about circular-reason, guilt, self-delusion, etc. In fact, intelligence makes you stay LONGER with your own mindgames. No, this movie PERFECTLY portrays the soul-crushing insanity. Don't vote the MOVIE down because you didn't live it or like JW's. THAT'S being "stupid".
pretty silly that she prays to a God she doesn't believe in at the end.
confused much?
