  • in new zealand i deal with this all the time. those copper elbows and crimps fail hard, aswell as the pipe, but only when it has been swept up throught the floor. the newer gens here in new zealand have brass fittings with copper crimps seem to be more resilliant, but it will split on the outside of the swept..

  • Well, whats wrong with 3rd poly?

  • Poly pipe isn't bad its self, its the fittings that gave it a bad name. Thank god for pex...

  • I lived in a mobile home with second generation polybutylene and I will tell you it was crap, never knew when a fitting would fail. Fortunately there were never any catastrophic failures where there was any great damage, finally through a class action lawsuit got all cpvc plumbing installed at no cost!

  • I lived for a while in a mobile home with First Generation polybutylene potable water plumbing and never had a problem. It was manufactured around 1977-1978, before Shell cheapened the plastic formula. The only complaint I had was the lack of stop valves at the various fixtures and unavailability of such parts at the local hardware store, until I discovered that I could get what I needed at a nearby RV supply. I'd use PEX today, though.

  • Yeah......I'm starting to wonder about the plumbers in that area. Just look at the hang. Looks terrible, no hanger under the trap, test tee or clean out tee is in a very odd location and who knows how that trap is vented, Not in anyway I've ever seen.

  • poly is bullcrap any generation
