Some Cine (originally) taken by my Grandad of Halifax West Yorkshire UK in the 1950's sometime (NB: some recent comments have suggested actually the early 1960's). I think he was filming the flowers actually, but it's everything around them that makes this interesting, if you know the town.

  • It was the 60's. The New Victoria was called Victoria Hall until 1960 when it was refurbished and renamed. It later became the Halifax Civic Theatre in 1973 and changed back to The Victoria Theatre in 1993.The cinema was the Regal purpose built in 1938, which later became ABC in 1961 and closed in 2002

  • I think you've probably nailed it there! Thanks!

  • More like the late 60s I think or early 70s. In the 50s the buses had a back, open platform. Your buses have front doors which didn't come in until the early 70s, I think.

Als, the cinema opposite the New Victoria was not called the ElDorado. It was either the ABC in the 60s or the Regal...can't remember which.

  • ABC was the cinema opposite Eldorado during the 70's, now a nightclub I think. It's interesting noone can absolutely pin down the date here, early 60's seems to be the best bet.

  • Great video. Captain, what's the soundtrack?

  • @Captainjjb The New Victoria was called Victoria Hall until 1960 when it was refurbished and renamed. It later became the Halifax Civic Theatre in 1973 and changed back to The Victoria Theatre in 1993.The cinema was the Regal purpose built in 1938, which later became ABC in 1961 and closed in 2002. So, with this timeline we can pinpoint it to 1960 after The New Vic to 1961 before ABC
