"Mr. Invincible" was the focus of a hilarious series of public service announcements that were aired on Newstalk 780 KOH in Reno, Nevada. Sean McDevitt and Phil Galbraith wrote, produced and performed 51 of these traffic safety spots from 1997-2000.
Looking back, I think this is where we really started to hit our stride with "Mr. Invincible"; we were definitely onto something with our first three tries, but this time around, you can sense us getting a hold of just the right mixture of silliness combined with the desire to make a serious point about traffic safety. When I study this, I'm really pleased with the writing; I think what had occurred at the time was that we had been running a series of really dull public service announcements concerning drowsy drivers (produced by some faceless and boring public agency), and it must have occurred to us, "We can come up with something far better than that". The result was this: Mr. Invincible on an absurdly long road trip, pushing himself too far and into reckless danger.
(In case you're wondering, Mr. Invincible's road trip -from Reno to Jackpot to Las Vegas to Elko) covers approximately 1,366 miles and would take about 21 hours to complete; based on those calculations, I'm guessing that Mr. Invincible totaled his car somewhere around Tonopah.)
