26,000 casualties on Iwo Jima and over 18,000 Japanese soldiers killed and only 37 captured alive, over 62,000 U.S casualties on Okinawa and over 250,000 dead or wounded Japanese both civilian and military. What would an Invasion of mainland Japan been like? It would have been horrific, truly hell on earth. The bombs saved lives in the end.

@ClubPinkz In times of war, many horrible things happend. There is no doubt that Japan did not deserve this, but America did not deserve Pearl Harbor, Europe did not deserve the Holocaust.
People do not deserve war...

You cannot make the government do what you want so go after the innocent. Both Japan (in occupied countries) and US have done it during WW2. In the bigger picture, this is not about Japan, US or any government. It's about innocent people being slaughtered. To me, Hiroshima, Nanking, Dresden, Guernica or any other countless incidents throughout the history is tragic and they all should be. If you are position to blast an entire city with one bomb or 2000 bombs, don't take it lightly.

It's very sad that innocent people have to suffer for what the barbaric Japanese government and troops did. The Japanese military machine caused suffering and despair throughout Asia. The bombing of Tokyo caused over 100,000 deaths in one night and no surrender but just the absolute devastation the nuclear bomb caused made the Japanese government re-think about surrendering. Very tragic. By the way the Japanese planned on dropping biological flea bombs on San Diego.

More people died in the fire bombing of Tokyo, but Japan did not surrender. Japan surrendered days after the Nukes were dropped. It saved lives. It ended the war. QED.
-
This was set in motion by Albert Einstein, who feared Hitler getting it first, from Roosevelt to Truman achieving President during war time hours, Truman made the decision, Adam and Baker were dropped and Japan's military will was broken, so as to save American lives...it was the first time Atomic Bombs were used in battle...From Pearl Harbor to this. I have no judgement upon this other than wow...poor lady
-
because they didn't surrender after the first bomb.
but goddamn it! why didn't they just use a regular bomb?
or... no bomb at all! it's true, we were winning. we had the total advantage.
i just want to say that japan never deserved this, all the inccocent people that died. and for what? what exactly did dropping a nuclear bomb on them do apart from kill hundreds of people?? maybe japan did bomb america first but japan did not deserve that. all them people died painful deaths even the survivors had a horrible life, they had to live with radioactive poisning, knowing there friends and family have died in such a horrible way. survivors at the time probably enyved the dead.
