ladies of the Pacific Islanders Club at Washington State University dancing the Samoan Siva for Dad's Weekend Luau (Nov.2005)

These ladies are not professional dancers -- some never performed the siva at all before this, some never visited any of the islands, and others don't even have a drop of Polynesian blood in them -- but all were eager and willing to learn about the various cultures of the Pacific as well as learn the different dances. I'm proud of them and I think they put on a fantastic performance!

PIC's Mission: "As an organization, we strive to address issues concerning Pacific Islanders students. Our goals are to educate and inform people (Pacific Islanders and non-Pacific Islanders) about our cultures and traditions, as well as aid in the recruitment, retention, and graduation of Pacific Islander students.

We welcome new students and provide them a forum where they can openly express their thoughts and opinions, while providing moral support and peer guidance."

  • hey you guys attempted...nd did good...:)so well done!!:)

  • Whats the song to this called pleasee ?

  • u samoans are just making fool of yourselves posting up stupid comments about your own people... i think this must be a new version of siva in the US called the SIVAMERICANS... and also this is the first time i've seen some thin samoan dancers.... =)...

  • daam all you asses that be complaing about this video NOT being a samoan dance. JUST CHILL. no ones asking for your rude comments. if you read the description earlier than your mouth wouldnt be complaing. its just a PERFORMANCE. DAAM.

  • It is a Samoan Siva to a Samoan Song. Great job! Good contemporary music and moves...maybe it's because we taught it when we(old PIC) were there=)

  • this is not so ok. should be samoan dance to a samoan pese

  • l agree with you 100%...lack of grace and elegance!! too hip-hop(ish) and too much thinking about their next move. you took the exact words right out of my mouth!!

  • the moves & music doesn't flow 'cuz that's how the video crew recorded it. trust i was behind the scenes makin sure everything went smoothly. but it is a SAMOAN siva & the ladies did an amazing job putting on a good show even though the video quality doesn't show the amazing effort they had put forth. but thanks Lil for postin this. brings back great memories. WSU PIC always does an awesome job with these Dad's Weekend Luaus & im proud to have taken part. ;D Go Cougs!

  • I wouldn't call this Samoan Siva either.

It was too hip-hop(ish) and the dancers seemed liked they didn't know what the hell they were doing! Plus, when you Siva you gotta use your whole body... and try not to think about the moves... just flow with the music. =]

  • OMG!!! I haven't seen this in 4ever! There i go 2nd 2 tha left! OH MY NO! soo young
