Peachpittv.com - Photoshop World '08 is coming to Las Vegas this September. In the meantime, Dan Margulis, the only writer in the Photoshop Hall of Fame, discusses which channels are the best for creating optimal contrast in your photos at PSW '07.
I'm just getting into Lab, and Dan is the man! Commenters below are right, he's one of the few editors that you should be focusing on if you're new to editing. Plenty of people out there say they know how to edit pictures, but few can match his skill. No surprise he has a best selling book on Photoshop.
My Canon 5D Mark II has the ability to show the Red Green and Blue (RGB) histograms. It also has the ability to adjust/tint these colors in addition to Magenta which of course does not have a histogram. Not being an artist, could you give some pointers on how the Magenta tint adjustment plays into the color schemes e.g. adding more Magenta tint add allow you to mix the RGB colors and come up with say more "yellows" in your picture?

That people should be impressed with simply messing with a Luminosity channel is beyond me.
Get an education. Dan Margulis is to color science what Hershey kisses are to chocolate.
