This is the first version (of many) that Belafonte recorded of this song. It dates back to late 1953. I like it better than the version from 1956, which seems tamer and less expressive. This 1953 version, as another poster mentioned, was collected in the" 60 years of music america loves best " anthology,. The 1956 recording, though,, is the one that seems to be favoured by compilers in latter years
