December 28, 2009. This time-lapse video shows the entire day (3 hours and 49 minutes) in two minutes. It was shot one week after the actual Winter Solstice (the shortest day of the year in Earth's Northern Hemisphere on December 21). Only 100 miles from the Arctic Circle, this video looks south at the Alaska Mountain Range and shows sunrise through sunset. The video includes pre-dawn (one-half hour before sunrise) and dusk (one-half hour after sunset). Copyright Eric Muehling 2009. All rights reserved. Available in high-definition. Original frames were shot in 10-second intervals with a Canon D30 SLR (raw format).

  • Yes. This time-lapse video was made with still images, each shot about 10-seconds apart. Good luck on your own video.

  • Really gorgeous video.. where's our credit! (IARC staff).. :)

  • @palefacealaskan. I did this video for fun! It was a personal project made with my own equipment. I have good notes on how to do this, if you're interested. Definitely not work-related. Thanks for the "georgeous" comment!

  • @umbergerwill No, we all live in igloos.

  • I went to Fairbanks in Aug 08. I stood outside the Westmark hotel and said "I must see this place in winter." This past winter I did just that. It was -30, gorgeous! (Also went to Anchorage and Kotzebue same trip.) Alaska in summer is beautiful, but Alaska in winter is spectacular. I will come back again.... in winter...I watch this video a lot, it calms my soul.
