I wanted to remix the Jay-Z version but removing the drums was impossible. Then I stumbled across Alicia's Key's version, without ,drums, and thought I'd give that version a go

  • You've created a great compilation :) *THUMBS UP*

  • WTF this is bpm 180??? hahahha

  • I have a more DnB style remix of the first version of this song /watch?v=oOxNhDlitaw

    Not bad though, props.

  • Thumbs up. Not what I expected (house/trance) but glad I heard it!!

  • awesome, thank you for using just her and not that shit rap.

  • i feel your soul in it. beautiful work.

  • Long answer: For this remix I used 2 diff softwares, 1) Adobe Audition to splice up Jay-Z's beats in his intro of his version of the song, then basically manually placed each drum/snare/hihat to form the main drum loop. After adjusting for a lot of non-metronomic tempos (Alicia didn't use a metronome when recording this), I exported the audio to 2) Steinberg Cubase to lay down bassline, warm pads, and various other subtle harmonic elements

  • Hahaha nice, thx. You know what, for pre-EDC this year, I just might do another one, I still had so many tracks I didn't use... And the last EDC mix was intended for non-trance listeners (vocal trance, poppier anthems, trying to coax ppl into trance) but the next one will be for true tranceheads, less vocals and less popular tunes.

Short answer to your first question: 1) Adobe Audition and 2) Steinberg Cubase.
