In its thirteen years, Galveston Bay Foundation's "Marsh Mania" event has involved more than 6,381 community volunteers in the restoration of over 195 acres of vital salt marsh habitat at 69 sites around Galveston Bay. In 2011, volunteers plant seagrass, smooth cordgrass, mangroves, and/or mulberry trees at 6 sites around Galveston Bay including Burnet Bay, Sweetwater Preserve, Terramar, Clear Lake Forest Park, Harborwalk Diversionary canal, and Snake Island Cove.
The final numbers for 2011 are:
373 volunteers
26,650 stems of smooth cordgrass planted
2,200 plugs of seagrass planted
400 mangrove trees planted
30 mulberry trees planted
