In a new two-year study on dieting, the low-carb Atkins diet had the most weight loss and lowest cholesterol levels. But other approaches had other benefits, reports Dr. Jon LaPook.

The 80's and Ancel keys had it all wrong.

CARBOHYDRATES WILL KILL YOU.

Animal meat and animal fat are about the best things a Human can eat. Throw in some berries, veggies, and just some fruit, and you have The Caveman Diet.

People who don't understand Low Carb simply don't understand biochemistry. they must educate themselves!

Simplified ... excess Insulin is overall the bad guy.

LDL (the bad cholesterol) receptors are INCREASED in fat cells (adipocytes) by .... you guessed it ... insulin!! Not good ... it simply makes u STORE MORE FAT!

Also, G3P (Glyceraldehyde-3-Phosphate) becomes the glycerol backbone of triglycerides (fat!). and G3P is produced in CARBOHYDRATE metabolism!!! NOT fat metabolism!

Low-carbers get their energy from their high-fat diet. Low-carbers often report they have more energy then they ever did before on a high-carb diet. High-carb diets make you feel tired and sleepy.

First of all this guy is wrong. The bacon cheeseburger will not kill you. The whole saturated fat thing is a myth.

And the more calories than you burn thing is a myth also. That's not true. Why do fat people not even eat a lot and still can't lose weight. Cause it's the carbohydrates.

Animal meat and animal fat is very good for you and it's what Humans like you and me have evolved to eat. This guy sounds like he has a vegetarian agenda.

I agree with you completely. Animal fat is the most natural form of fat out there... and we need fat! It's healthy. I gained weight on low- fat for years.... Now I eat plenty of fat and I have lost 40 pounds.

but isn't there a risk that I'm gonna use a lot of water and and break down a lot of muscle for energy? I'm actually thinking about going on a low carb diet but 34 pounds in one month sounds a bit much :O. when I work for my definition where I try to drop body fat % I lose about 1-2 pounds per week if even that. Another thing I don't understand is why they call it low carb when you usually eat a lot of vegetables on a low carb diet. vegetables have carbs. can anyone explain this please?

"vegetables have carbs"

Not all veg have carbs. Things like broccoli, beans, cauliflower, cabbage and the like have very little carbs but are very rich in vitamins and minerals.
