On this January 3rd, 1933 only a part of the crew was aboard, 229 souls, the ocean liner was on the route to Le Havre, for some refits and transformations....but early in the morning at 6h 45.....a fire broke out.....

Fitted out with the most expensive wooden laquered panels, the Atlantique was on of the most modern designed liner of its period. The beautifull shopping gallery, the use of wood and the important spaces gave the fire the best conditions to destruct this unique Art Deco Liner.
18 victims were the result of this accident and new rules for fire protection for Ocean Liners.

  • Why is there Chinese music?

  • STF: You criticize her for her "mud-ugly and old fashioned" exterior and then you damn the French line for wanting to get rid of her? Wouldn't you think they saw her as you did and got rid of her for those reasons? If you, as an ocean liner lover find her lines unappealing, what did the passengers of the day think? That's what concerned the French line. That's probably why they didn't want to invest in her restoration.

  • @SuperTitanicfreak, It certainly was a contradiction between the Beautiful and Modern Art Deco interiors, and the mud ugly and old fashioned exterior and hull. She could have been saved, but the French Line didn't want her. Harland and Wolf had put in a bid for repairs, which were reasonable, but the French line fought for over a year to have her declared a total loss. I guess enough money reached the right pockets, and the Courts declared her a total loss, and she was scrapped!

  • So sad, thankyou for sharing.....

  • Oh, that poor ship. Why did this have this have to happen? And look at the spectators. The men looked like zombies, the picture from 1:44 to 1:48, the men really looked like zombies. Poor L'Atlantique, destroy so tragically.

  • Why did the fire have to start? Could there be any way to save her? Why did such a disaster have to happen on a gorgeous Lady like L'Atlantique? WHY?!

  • @SuperTitanicfreak CALM DOWN YA OLD QUEEN, THERES LOTS OF SAILORS TO BUGGER OUT THERE.

  • This is very sad, but it's sadder that she remain afloat. Damn it, She should have sank instead of being scrapped. God Damn It!

  • That video is really sad, with that musica and these pictures of the ships, its really a sad ending for a such beautifull ocean liner
