  • @AspinceLaframboise I would say the actual bullshit was more from the journalistic side of the house.

  • @AspinceLaframboise sound public health principles which prevent the continuing exposure necessary to encourage virulence. SARS wasn't the new black plague, but if we had dismissed it and allowed a continued low key spread then it could have easily acquired the new mutations necessary to make it highly virulent and highly deadly.

  • @AspinceLaframboise No, it's a legitimate concern to the difficulty inherent in anticipating the cyclical waves of disease. SARS, H5N1, and H1N1 are all classic examples of viruses making the initial attempts to mutate and jump species. It's a natural statistical epidemiological process, and it will continue to happen. The question is often one of 'overreaction' versus allowing a new 1918 Flu Pandemic to wreak havoc. The only barrier to a new pandemic is the swift implementation of
