2010 San Jose Buddhist Mens -66 Kg weight class. This is the Black belt division at a Level E national Points tournament. Austin Cook from the Olympic Training Center recieves Hansoku Make for not wearing a blue Judo gi. This is the first round of the double elimination tournament. After this loss, he has to battle his way out of the losers bracket to eventually finish second. Notice he does not bow out to his opponent and does not bow off the mat. This was followed by a series of profanity. (Not recorded) He said he called to before the tourney and asked if it was required (even though it said in the entry form that all Black belts must have a blue gi)

  • Ridiculous! The ref doesn't know how to judge the match without a blue gi? They should be ashamed of calling themselves Judo ref! Ridiculous and unfair for the athlete.

  • If Kanō Jigorō saw this he'd be fucking livid. If it's too small then yes that obviously puts the other guy at a disadvantage but "the wrong colour"? Bullshit.

  • Guy on the left is an ASSHOLE. Follow the rules or get DQed. Extremely easy. Not bowing at the end is a bitch move.

  • @OVERCAPITALIZE...If the rules say that SENIORS MUST wear Blue Gi, there is no reason why the Juniors in the background need to be brought into the equation.

    @TheF16pilot...There is no requirement in any part of contest rules that say you MUST bow to the mat..........Your Opponent Yes, the Mat, No.

    @judorican973.........Why ??

  • Those are the rules for high level tournaments. For somebody with his level of Judo, he should know better. Now whether the rules are stupid is another issue entirely.

  • the left guy is a asshol, he didn't make a bend near the opponent.

    That's rule one of judo: have respect to you opponent

  • That ref is an asshole!

  • anyone notice in the back, the kids are wearing white lol.

  • For people who don't know what it means, it means losing the battle immediatly and an automatic disqualification for the whole tournament.

  • bow down to the tatami!

  • @TheBeardyDave this happened to me one time at the senior and white belt nationals...i was wearing a bjj gi. I didnt think it would be a problem. luckyly for me one of the referes told me before i stepped in the matt...he said if i would've bow in with that gi i would've been dq
