Greek Youth Revolts - DECEMBRIANA 2008

Greek youth started revolting at December 2008 against police brutality over the death of a 15-year old boy, Alex Gregoropoulos, who was shot dead by two police officers. Student rallies were held allover Greece in protest to autocratic Greek Police and youth humiliation, increasing poverty levels, low wages and mass unemployment.

Growing anger from previous years exploded to mass youth demos and rallies, and to student riots and classes with Police. Youngsters accuse Police for murder in cold blood, increasing brutality and unprovoked violence against many innocent civilians.

Greek youth couldnt take it anymore with all that; Growing social insecurity, uncertainty for the morrow, cuts in wages, lay-offs, privatisation of industry and of public utilities, neoliberalism, austerity policies, and yet another series of 'reforms' for the negating of welfare state, conditions and benefits, by an increasingly unpopular conservative government, which had lost all support from the people.

Anger results to attacks on banks, state and government buildings by many greek youths. Police became also an easy target for many young protesters who wished for an end to brutal police methods and the stopping of a daily humiliation of youngsters and other innocent civilians by police.
