You probably know this by now (since you posted a year ago), but that is a Shakuhachi, my friend. Until the meiji era, it used to be played exclusively by monks from the Samurai class... and, as they were forbidden to carry Katanas, was modified in order to be used as a bludgeon if necessary.

Thx Marié, i hope i will enjoy some further Karate Meetings with u and Imai Sensei, Ishikawa Sensei and maybe Funasako Sensei too.
