This prison agenda is entirely a governing-through-crime strategy. Most vote garnering platforms invite opposition from powerful lobbyists, but prisoners are economically & socially disenfranchised; there are no powerful lobbyists on their side. So create panic over illusionary crime rates, offer up your tough-on-crime agenda, and accuse opponents of hating victims. Call it the "Safety Act for Safe Streets for the Safer Safety of Your Children", for good measure. Easy votes and no one to oppose.

What he's referring to is classic right-wing political strategy: Create a climate of fear and paint yourself out to be the only thing standing between the average person and the abyss. Much easier to get done what you want to get done when people are distracted with fear.

@batlad Okay, then why add the Omnibus Crime Bill at the same time? The money we spend on prisons, 6 billion annually, MIGHT cover the additions due to that. So where are these new repaired prisons being built/when & with what money?
