Testing my own clean, rhythm, and lead tones on my brand new POD X3 Live, plus a... thingy. XD Recorded at 3 AM or something at a beach condo we rented for New Year's, except the last clip the next day sometime not so late.

For any of you who know what I'm playing for the lead part, not only did I pull that off by ear, but also by memory, without using the song as a reference, and I haven't heard it recently, so if I got something wrong, cut me some slack. D=

Also, anybody wanna tell me why recording through USB with the POD X3 sounds kinda fugly? I was really hoping I could use this for recording my own songs at home. I've heard some clips of people recording with a USB and they sound good. What the hell? I'm using a Macbook Pro with Windows XP Pro SP3 installed through Boot Camp, Intel Core Duo 2 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, nVidia Geforce 8600GT, and the factory sound card with Realtek Audio, if any of that info helps. I've used Audacity and KRISTAL and it doesn't make much difference. Help, please?

EDIT: Nevermind, I started using other speakers and everything sounded much better. I just learned you don't use internal laptop speakers to record music.

And if anybody wants the detailed settings for each of these patches, just ask.

Equipment:

Ibanez Xiphos XPT700
Randall RG25RXM combo, 33w

Video recorded through the Macbook's iSight with Debut, a freeware video recorder.

  • just got a pod xt......how do i get output from my pc speakers when using it via usb?

  • @VisContigo You mean to monitor your POD? Depends on what you're using. Most recording software like GarageBand should have a monitor setting that lets you hear your POD through your computer speakers. If there's no such feature in your recording software, I guess your best bet is plugging your speakers directly to the POD's Phones output. What I do in GarageBand is that I go into the settings menu and make it so both input and output are my POD X3, so I hear my POD X3 and everything else.

  • awful couch! ;)

  • @Eminonna Not mine. ;D

  • will my amp (marshall mg10cd 10w) be good enough for the pod x3 live or should i get a better amp?

  • @stushar007shit No idea. Honestly, I'm sure my amp isn't very good for it. What you have to do is get something that can give you the truest sound, without coloring or distorting it in anyway, so that all you're hearing is your POD. I once ran it through a Fender amp that I can't remember the name of through its preamp socket and it sounded awesome, so an amp with a preamp thing would be very nice. It might still sound nice with your amp, though.

  • Are you able to tell me your settings?

  • I love the rhythm tone, but I am totally crazy for that lead! :D

  • @n30l1nk thanks.....i'm using gearbox tho.

  • I know what you mean by : recording through USB with the POD X3 sounds kinda fugly. I use audacity too, for multitracking, bass and guitar, but this is not what i expected at all... I don't know what to do and i wonder if i should get a microphone, to catch the sound of my amp instead... See you. Liner.

  • @stushar007shit It all depends on what your needs are. If all you want is a wah then get a wah pedal. If you want to use dozens of different amp models as well as use different effects, and have a digital tuner, then the pod is immense
