I only discovered this delightful film recently. It charts the rise of Will Mossop, played by Sir John Mills, from boot hand in Henry Hobson's shop to co-owner of the business. Ably assisted by Brenda de Banzie as Maggie Hobson, the eldest daughter. A very young Prunella Scales (Sybil Fawlty) also appears as the youngest sister Vicky. Starring Charles Laughton as Hobson, directed by Sir David Lean (Lawrence of Arabia) with music by Sir Malcolm Arnold. The scene shows the arranged meeting in the park, Maggie discovers there is 'another woman' and sets off to sort it out!

  • john mills was a brilliant actor, and this is a brilliant film!!

  • This film is the best example of what love should be; helping each other to be the best of ourselves. It illustrates that the finest love is forged through adversity & hardship, where each person loves & supports the other against seemingly insurmountable odds. Beautiful film.

  • I'm watching the movie again, right now. Definitely one of my favorites with an outstanding cast!

  • I love the morning after the wedding, when he comes out of the bedroom and walks up to her and just says, "By gum..." I never thought that could sound sexy, but so help me, the way he says it there, it does.

  • @crocostimpy "Look at him, slinking away with his fancy bit."

  • Is Ada Figgins really saying "Look at him, slinking away with his fancy bitch."? That's what it sounds like to me. I'd love to see a transcript of every word Ada and Mrs. Figgins say...

  • One of the best films ever made, another David Lean classic.
