One interesting aspect to this debate is the difference in the approach to art in the East & West. In Asia, especially Japan & China, tradition & the past are held in reverence. Copying faithfully masterworks is accepted, even enouraged. In the West, inovation is valued. But even in the West, copying is a 'tradition' which is valueable for learning. In all art, mastering the craft & the tradition is useful before making inovations. Art & craft should be equally respected.
