Sticking a plasma grenade and a spike grenade together in midair can be done. This was pure luck I just happened to save the film. Keep in mind this happened within the month that halo 3 was released so it is completely possible (although I doubt it)that Bungie patched it.

looks more like the spike grenade pushed the plasma grenade back,
if it had stuck it should have gone the whole length the spike grenade was meant to...
but thats just my opinion
