Magical live performance from Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, and Bob Moses at the Jazz Workshop in 1976. This trio was truly something else, especially live. Those who were so fortunate to have witnessed this concert can/could consider themselves priviliged. This version of Bright Size Life is truly amazing!

  • To everyone: If you liked this live version, be sure to visit my channel and check out the other live version I posted. It is from a different gig which took place two years prior to this one. It offers a slight difference in atmosphere( the playing is a tad more laidback). It is also worth noting that it was recorded better.

  • This man can play himself to the moon and back if he wanted to!

    Hahaha. Very true :)

  • One of my most favorite ECM groups of the time.. My brother and I would listen to this record for hours...Very cool to hear the group live..really a rare treat. Jaco was a treasure and all the bass players can thank him for his harmony on the bass.. Jaco forever changed the sound of the bass..rip Jaco. Tullius..

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed comment. I'm glad you liked the post.

  • I played with Bob Moses many times and he always maintained that the live stuff like this that this trio did was the some of Jaco's best playing. I agree. Before fame, money, drugs, it was all about the music.

Count me in. Jaco enjoyed an exciting period as a musician during his time with Metheny and Moses, and it shows in his playing. BTW your transcription website is phenomenal! Thanks for taking the time to comment.

  • Probably one of the best configurations either artist had been in...had it not been for Jaco's drug use they may well have been together to this day.

I read somewhere that Pat sat by Jaco's grave and cried for two hours. Both of them such young geniuses! I love them both. Wish I could have seen one of those performances.

Even though Stanley Clarke got a record-deal and became known before Jaco, Jaco already had his sound and style together in 1972 which is four years before this gig ;)

  • @DiegoLanus87 That's right. The album, now called "Jaco", was released in 1974. Bright Size life is from 1976 I think.

  • Jaco died a senseless death did he not...? Was he like thrown down a set of stairs by a club bouncer ? Tragic ! Im a Guitarist that wishes he could play bass really well ! Peace Ye`All

  • Vaya genios!

  • Before Bright Size Life album Jaco has played in Paul Blays album. Thats right or i´m wrong? (Sorry but my english is a crap).

  • Wow this one is just amazing. Jaco almost brought tears to my eyes...

  • @Gxyz222 Beautiful, isn't it?

  • @Gxyz222 the last 1-1:30 is bananas!
