@metalx1000: I'm not using Compiz at the moment, but I will have a look at it.
Thanks!

@guitard00d: I agree, Rose Garden does have more features then the other two. I just thought I would point them out in case you like them.

Well, just tried qtractor a seq24 and both of them have way too limited MIDI editing and quantization features. Rosegarden allows you to edit at the MIDI event level and quantize things so they can still remain slightly off in order to achieve a human feel to them rather than sounding robotic like everything that's on the radio these days.

@guitard00d : Qtractor is more what your looking for if you are recording off a Keyboard though.

Good tutorial on Rosegarden!
What did you use for screen capturing? I take it this not done with your ffmpeg-bash script...

@20feetputt: This is an older video, so I probably did it with GTKrecordmydesktop. Which worked but was glitch at times. ffmpeg works better and is quicker.

@metalx1000: How did you zoom in on certain areas? Is this a feature of GTKrecordmydesktop? I have used qtrecordmydesktop and I don't think you can zoom in with that. And then it generates ogv files which I can't load in kdenlive, or mplayer for that matter...

@20feetputt: That is a feature of Compiz. If you are using Compiz, going to the settings and make sure that the "Zoom" feature is enabled (I think there is also an option for "Enhanced Zoom" or something like that, choose it as well). By default you hold down the Super Key and scroll to zoom in and out.

The problem I'm trying to overcome is this...Back in the Cakewalk for DOS days, I could set Cakewalk as a MIDI sync slave, arm the tracks that I want to record on and press the record button. Cakewalk would sit there waiting to see the MIDI clock and would not record until then. That way, when I pressed play on the external sequencer, the notes that came in always landed on the correct MIDI clock markers.

@guitard00d: I just want to make sure I understand you.
Are you looking for rose-garden to wait until the first midi note is send to it to start recording?
Or, are do you have a play/record button on your midi hardware.
I know my MIDI Keyboard has a play and a record button it,
and I know I've used it before and it might have been in RoseGarden.
