In August 2011 it was announced by Marvel Comics (owned by Disney) that Peter Parker was killed by the Green Goblin and the new Spiderman would be Miles Morales, an Afro Latino teenage boy. The message board immediately lite up with anger and frustration from many White Men (example below). I ask the question what does the dead of Peter Parker represent.

  • i have nothing against black people or black superheroes but i dont like spiderman changing. i would be just as frustrated if it was a random character that was white that replaced peter parker its just i dont like them changing a classic and i was almost in tears when i read ultimate spiderman 160 the death of spiderman.

  • @KFjustice I respect your position 100%. Thanks for posting.

  • I am white and I agree with you completely, I can especially understand your argument about you wanting your son to be able to identify with spiderman (or any superhero for that matter), but I can also understand where some of the comments are coming from, not comments like the white genocide thing or whatever,(the example you used), but the people upset with peter parker dying, Personally I prefer it if they came up with some cool new black... superheroes (I love spawn) to increase diversity

  • @Zboghar I appreciate your energy and the post. Thanks for taking the time.

  • Peter Parker is a great character but at some point all characters die an all heroes are replaced. Miles Morales is a respectable replacement. At least they didnt pull that Captain America shit where the shield went to Bucky by making Torch Spider-Man or some crap. In their own roles Bucky an Torch are alright but nethier of them feel right replacing the "originals". Rather see a new character with a connection that they did manage to make work instead of seeing Aunt May swinging on webs.

  • @ralfcaetano Fair enough. Peter Parker is a classic. I hated the Speed Racer movie. They changed Racer X's costume! I didn't draw broader societal conclusions from a bad creative decision. Thanks for posting.

  • @abdullahthebutcher i'm not against the new spiderman i find the new costume to be awesome actually i just personally feel that they didn't need to kill peter parker... the two ways i'd like this miles story to go is either he'd seek guidance from a retired peter parker (kinda like batman beyond) or he'd work along side peter parker as another superhero... what really revolts me is the way he got killed...

  • @mooncooninc83 No. I will look for that interview. I am familiar with Mr. McDuffie. Thanks for posting.

  • @ralfcaetano I was heart broken when Jim Brown was killed in The Dirty Dozen, but my mind did not turn to hatred. I get your point. Thanks for viewing and posting.

  • first off i'll start by saying i'm white... and say there are some racists but most of them are just revolted by the death of such an iconic hero as peter parker
