Howard did nothing except ban automatic guns. Keating floated the dollar and deregulated the banks. Set the economy up so the mining boom worked well for Australia, Howard and Costello reaped the credit. Howard was just a smart politician who appealed to the lowest common denominator. As time goes on he will be seen less and less as anything good for Australia.

hawke and keating started up the process of deregulating and privatising most of the australian economy in the 80s (completely against the theme of the ALP) but howard continued those reforms and deregulations. It is a gross simplification to claim that just because of keatings deregulations it automatically meant australia was going to prosper. as the state labor governments have shown it is possible to screw up the good times.

based on what i have just read I would say i agree with "the rule of law" and i believe it to be necessary. That being said i have to say that i agree with australias anti-terror laws which i believe were not in accordance with the rule of law as many of them were rushed through, therefore not "properly communicated to all"
