poem to sycamores

Sycamores.......

Visceral trees,
having come to the creek
in slow herd,
appearing with your leaning children
casting glances across green
cold currents,
look your drinking there
holding the sides of water
to the rafts of stones;
you, ligaments of heart,
airs of bloods and fish
where blue heron sweeps
a clear curve;
you, tribe, portents,
making the making of words
the next human bardo.
We, the invited,
rending god
to open again sacred axis,
sharing the gestures
of your branches purely stretched,
sharing the chant in the rains
that you turn again into soft broad leaves.
oh white watershed trees,
wait for us
to know you again;
wait for communion.
