SonicProjects OP-X version 2.1 communicating with Behringer BCR2000 using the new midi cc feedback feature for value jump free remote control. Sorry for the bad quality, a better one will follow. Works too with OP-P PRO 1.2. Both updates will be delivered within the next few days.

You can see how the controls of the BCR2000 endless rotary encoders follow the movements of the GUI knobs. There's also a comlete dump of all parameters on every program change that updates the hardware controls to the settings of the new preset. This means: there are no value jumps any more since hardware controller and software are completely linked. This allows to tweak and play OP-X like a real hardware synth without touching the mouse a single time or even looking at the monitor. Programs can be changed by midi.

In order for this to work you must route the midi out of OP-X back to the controller device. In cubase this can be done using a separate midi track for the back-routing (1st track: in = midi keyboard & bcr2000, the best choose "all", out = OP-X; 2nd track: in = OP-X, out = bcr2000). In more simple hosts like e.g. MiniHost just activate the needed devices in the MIDI Input Output mangement.

It's really a great experience and much more intuitive than using the computer mouse.

  • @1980sCoverband I know it by heart :-) but of course you could label the knobs on the dedicated white strips below; displays of course would be more comfortable, but this would make the device much more expensive (mackie control has it); the BCR2000 only costs Euro 139 which is extremely cheap for what it offers

  • How do you which rotory encoder on the BCR2000 controls which parameter on synth's GUI?

There ought to be at least a 6 Character LED Scribble Scrip under each encoder to show the Parameter that it is assigned to control on the synth's GUI.

  • Midi Parameter Feedback is really phantastic once you have discovered it - it allows to edit a software synth (when it supports parameter feedback) even more comfortable than most hardware synths because the hardware knobs do always update to the settings of the current patch - there's in fact no monitor needed any more (exept for saving edited patches or loading banks)
