I think people really need to do their own research. The Southern States suceeded from the Union not because of slavery but because of their 5th Amendment Rights the government was trying to take away. At that time, 6% of the Southern population owned slaves. Why on earth would all those people fight and die so that few people could keep their slaves? @up199519981982198319 I'm from Guntown, but used to live right near your hometown! In fact my cousin and her husband lived in Starkville for a long time. Later we all lived together in Louisville and also Noxapater, just down the road a piece. We got kin folk in Alabama too, I moved away myself and ended up living in the Scottish Highlands, of all places. But still miss and love my good old Mississippi, and our flag.
