@hochwada THE SAME CAN BE SAID ABOUT MOST CITIES/ LARGER towns in the states.
And the songs from my time, like your time might soon be forgotten. But here I am...born in a very so un-african neighborhood, delving into this never endless stream of beautiful music.
Maybe it will be remembered and passed down...i ask how can it not be. Fell what it does to our souls. The sou will not change and will need to be enriched and healed with this music forever.
Jojo ikomo, mtu wa sauti kama ya n'gombe, sauti mzito, murwa. Fataki lokasa masumbuko ya dunia. this guys painted Nairobi red, those were beautiful days. Yani Mungu hawezi pigisha dunia reverse paka hizo enzi kwa muda wa miezi sita tu alafu aturudishe, hahaha. Nairobi ilikuwa poa sana
The young who sings in Kayumba is JOJO IKOMO, it was in 1975 in Kampala when the band was playing on contract at economic nigth club in Mengo area. At that time I was in Kampala with my cousin BOB MWABILAYI, even Idi Amin Dada who was Uganda president was a big fanatic of the band, he was going to the club to dance.
Good old days, those were the days we would go to park Inn and Garden square and dance all night and stop by at the Ambassador bus stop, the 24 hours fish and chips joint and thereafter have a drink at the Karumaindo awiting the first Kenya bus or Matatu headed for Ofafa Maringo.Once in a while we would terrorize Imani nighht club just for the sake of it.
we should! It was a more innocent Kenya, you could walk from downtown nairobi to Kimathi estate at 3:00AM and probably be just fine! What a lovely time we lived in!
Looking at this picture in 1976 or thereabout one realizes how the face of Kenya looked when Bana Ngenge were playing in Uhuru Park. It is impossible to imagine how days move and receed into the background that fast. And within no time there will not be anyone of us who can relate to the music. It was lovely, we should tell our children and grandchildren.
