The enigmatic actor's actor, Avery Brooks reprise his starring role as the mysterious hero Hawk in this tv series spin-off from SPENSER FOR HIRE (with the late Robert Urich) fame. Both series are based upon the Spenser character novels by Robert Brown Parker. Stanley Clarke provided the jazzy music theme instrumentals for the series.
Hawk, played by Avery Brooks, moves back to his hometown of Washington, D.C. Hawk is tough and streetwise, a man who is erudite with a booming baritone voice who dresses fly while fighting crime -- despite the fact that he... More lacks the "official" credentials to do so. His mentor and father figure is the "Old Man" (Moses Gunn).
Hawk searches for an old friend and fellow Vietnam War vet turned stressed-out government operative named David Tracton (Vondie Curtis Hall, DIE HARD 2), who has become a killing machine. Hawk's old boss, Col. Edward Stoller, director of covert field operations in U.S. Intelligence asks Hawk to look for Tracton and bring him in before it's too late. Hawk enlists the help of Tracton's half-Vietnamese daughter to save his friend. Tracton is ultimately shot to death at the Jefferson Memorial after Hawk, unaware that he's being followed, leads him there. In this episode, Hawk gives the Old Man a signed, first-edition copy of WEB DuBois' 1903 book "Souls of Black Folk." Angela Bassett also appears in this episode as a high school teacher who could become Hawk's love interest.

@mokahquincy71 Since it was on for only one season it should make it that much easier to package and market for a reasonable price.

The parts with the old man are almost intolerable - they spoke as if they were reading poetry. It wasnt realistic. Well done - but unrelaistic in the middle of a real TV drama. Still my fav TV character of all time and should be on DVD.

@VRmission38 Thank you very much for the update man...I thought Urich had beat it too. How very depressing, and my belated condolences to his family. I think that with the right role? Mr. Brooks could be swayed to come away from the stage for awhile. Could you imagine him playing the father of T'Challa the Black Panther? I could. And what a voice he has! I will make it a point to check out the shows that he narrates; I didn't know that he did that.Thank you again bruh. Good lookin out!
