(Audio only)

Texas-born folk singer/songwriter Shawn Phillips sang this tune at the 1973 World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo. Accompanied by his own acoustic guitar, he was one of four to take home the Grand Prize. The song was released as a single in Japan and the USA, and also appeared on his album "Bright White".

  • And do you believe in changes and the way that the Lord arranges...

  • but the fact of matter remains, that we have to Change....and changes are the best way we can learn to be...each of us is on our own path of progression...each wonderfully unique and different

  • One of the best recorded albums of the 70's. Just plain clean and very Hi-Fi. Still carries on today as a perfectly recorded work. Not too much reverb, not too little. someday it will probably be rediscovered.

  • didn't realize shawn worked with paul buckmaster. always enjoyed paul's arrangments on cat stevens and elton john music. Shawn's arrangements remind me of buckmaster. Remember the first day I heard contribution, i was an aspiring singer. The quality of material, the voice the guitar it was all there big time.

  • One thing that I always loved about Shawn are the dynamics of his arrangements etc. I think it influenced me in my own performing, to vary the dynamics of things for an artistic flavor. His music is artwork for the ears.

  • Was introduced to Shawn's music by a high school friend and excellent musician himself, who had his "Bright White" album...thanks Dan Jenks! Phillips voice soars in this song. What a gift!

  • What a voice range Shawn has; a real joy to listen to his singing. His songs tend to have a lovely magic about them that allows me to escape from the problems of this world, if only for a little while.

  • @guitarchile119 that was your loss.

  • I actually put this album in the oven and watched it melt today.

  • @Funandconsciousness After all the years of listening to Shawn I have found out that some people didn't even know of his existance........ those poor souls.... Also I have found other people like myself who from the first encounter with his music have become fans for life.......... Yes he is truly a gift from Heaven given to man for the enjoyment of all............

  • @annacockman Now that's impact! And yes, he still has the same impact on me 40 years later.
