Mark Adams, Vice-President GM Europe Design, talks through the design features of the all new 2010 Vauxhall Astra.

The new Astra begins the next stage of the Vauxhall design journey, as we merge sculptural artistry with technical precision.

On the inside of the car, the first thing you notice is the warm and inviting wraparound interior. The interior has been designed with very dramatic and dynamic forms, and is very spacious also. It really opens up around you, and creates a very roomy cockpit which is perfect for this class of car.

We've also worked hard to make sure the ergonomics are perfect. Everything is within easy reach. The 30 degree angles used for the central console provide perfect placement for controls. All of the areas of human interaction have highly crafted décor. Even the décor element that runs around the central stack, the gear shifter and the electric park brake, are beautiful considered.

The Astra offers a wide range of interiors, each giving a unique driving environment. These range from upscale and sophisticated, through to sporty and dynamic, even fun and cheerful, and gives you the opportunity to personalise the car to your individual taste.

I hope they make a van version of this. It's amazing how car manufacturers don't consider van drivers. Only Vauxhall offer a classy car derived van. Some of us want to use our business vehicle for pleasure too.

@NeoAndersonn Agreed! These are miles more superior and refined than a Fuckus. I used to work for enterprise and I have driven the 1.6, 1.4T and 2.0 CDTi. These Astras drive and handle better than Focuses and they have a better ride. When you have been in one of these and jumped in a Focus after, the Focus feels like its a cheap Hyundai i 30 in comparison. You notice how basic, ill equipped and uncomfortable the Focus is. Ford keep polishing an old turd and they are lagging behind.

Looking forward to the Astravan. I just hope they don't slope the roofline too much. Us commercial users need height in the back but we also want something stylish & sleek.
