The northern city of Mekelle is one of the most pleasant places to visit in Ethiopia. The people are nice, the streets are wide and good for walking. As a foreigner, one of the most pleasant things about visiting Mekelle is the lack of hassle from locals - there are no crowds following you, no calling out of 'you, you' or 'money, money'. People very pleasantly leave you alone.

Within 80 kilometers of Mekelle there are reputed to be over 120 rock hewn churches, which makes Mekelle a stop off point or central resting place for visitors. From here day trips to the churches around Wukro or Geralta are easily arranged.

The town itself has many sites worth visiting. It is a good sized city but easy to get your bearings, and most places are walking distance.

I grow up in Addis Ababa. I am happy to see Mekelle city growing because we need more cities in Ethiopia. Keep working hard people. I am proud to be Ethiopian and so should you.

it was opening moment of Mekelle UNVTY.the girl was from AA and After grade 12 exam,she supposed to go Mekelle to study in the UNVTY;but b/s of the previous gvt's propaganda she scared to go there.finaly she decided to go Mekelle with her dad to make sure she was safe. From mekelle airport to the hotel,and UNVTY, they were surprised by the people good approach & kindness,her dad cried & he said,this kind people r treat u better than me,I left u with ur family, in the next day he left to addis.

There are no Ethiopians running to Eritrea. You know why? Because Isaias Afwerki has a shoot to kill policy in the border. Even though Meles Zenawi deported hundreds of thousands of Eritreans in the 1998-2000 war(which I thought was messed up), Ethiopia gladly welcomes Eritrean asylum seekers. Another thing, why do you Eritreans and your dirty Agame president(Isaias Afwerki) say everything is a "lie" or "propaganda? Oh, and Aljezeera is independent just like BBC.

So how is that Woyanie propaganda?! 2/3 of Eritrea is starving and not getting enough food. Look at Al-Jezeeras 2010 interview with your president Isaias. They questioned Eritrea's starvation, funding of terorism, assasination attemp, etc. Your people are running to Tigray refugee camps and drinking Ethiopian piss. hahahahaha
