Lincoln freed the slaves it was his only deed you can respect.
The only problem with it was he did not free them out of compassion he used them as pawns in the war.
He freed them in an attempt to make the war a war over slavery, which of course gives the North the moral highground.
If we examine his quotes before and during the war he was not an abolitionist in the least.
He started the war the moment he refused to allow the south to leave the union peacefully.
