Step by step instructions on building an A-frame system to support slacklines without using trees. There are other patterns out there, but we feel that this pattern is the best since it offers a full sheet of plywood support which increases the length of line that it can work for as well as increasing the abuse it can take. Some of the tools and techniques are optional, but regardless of your method expect these to take 3-6 hours for someone with limited woodworking experience to make.

  • Good question, it'll depend on your local lumber prices but you should do it right consider it an investment. Lumber isn't cheap here, but I'd estimate you'll be looking at $10-15 in 2x4s, $15-25 in plywood, $10 in screws and investing several hours of labor (probably 3-4 for your first attempt if you don't have a lot of experience with woodworking). I can be done with handtools, but for this project I used nearly $800 in tools.

  • Sorry for the audio quality in spots, the wind simply did not cooperate.

  • Yes, I know I could have used other techniques to cut it out rather than using a reciprocating saw for first a rough cut and following with a flush cut once it was screwed down, but without a manufacturing jig we found cutting the plywood to shape first invited problems.
