No you're wrong. A lot of our founding fathers were deists including Thomas Jefferson who wrote the Constitution. They were not interested, nor believed in a Christian god who listens to our thoughts, watches us, and affects our daily life and other such nonsense. And had Darwin and the theory of evolution been around during their time, men like Thomas Jefferson would certainly have been atheists. It is also common knowledge that Thomas Paine was an atheist as well.

Rather than take myths from thousands of years ago and hanging on to them without any introspection, science is a field that tests and retests all ideas in order to learn as much as we can about our physical world.
